Frequently Asked Questions
What kinds of custom waterfalls do you build?
Our team builds just about everything, from dramatic backyard rock waterfalls and cascading pond features to pondless waterfalls, storybook fountains, and contemporary modern water features designed to match specific architecture. We work with natural stone finishes and custom artificial rock, and we build for both residential and commercial clients across Utah. Some projects are large-scale outdoor centerpieces built into a hillside or retaining wall. Others are quieter, more intimate features tucked into a landscape. Interior designers, architects, and builders also bring us in for indoor waterfall installations where the feature becomes part of the structure itself. The range is genuinely wide, and every build starts with your vision, your space, and what the finished feature needs to feel like.
Do I need a pool to have a custom waterfall built?
Not at all. Standalone waterfalls are one of our most popular projects. A custom waterfall can be built directly into your landscape, integrated into a retaining wall, positioned as a garden focal point, or designed as a pondless feature that recirculates water through a hidden underground basin. Pondless waterfalls are a particularly good fit for homeowners who want the look and sound of a waterfall without the upkeep of a full pond. They’re also safer for households with young kids or pets. If you do have a pool and want a waterfall added to it, we build those too, but a pool is absolutely not a requirement. Your backyard just needs a vision and enough space to work with.
How much maintenance does a custom waterfall require?
Less than most people expect, especially when the waterfall is built correctly from the start. Routine care typically involves clearing debris from around the feature, keeping the pump clean, and monitoring water levels, which can drop during Utah’s hot, dry summers. Algae management is part of the picture too, though proper construction and the right water treatment setup can minimize how often that becomes an issue. Pondless waterfalls tend to be the lowest-maintenance option overall, since there’s no open pond to manage. For features that run through winter, we’ll show you how to monitor for ice buildup and when it makes sense to shut the system down and winterize it for the season. We go over all of this with every client before the project wraps up, so you’re not figuring it out on your own after we leave.
Do water features, such as outdoor waterfalls, add value to my home?
Water features, like outdoor and indoor waterfalls, might not add monetary value to your home but will increase aesthetic value. Installing a custom water feature will add curb appeal and make your home more inviting to potential buyers. These factors will lend a hand when selling your home by relaxing buyers, having a lasting visual impact, and make them want to stay longer as they view your house.
How long does it take to build a custom waterfall?
The timeframe for building a custom waterfall depends on various factors, such as weather, local building inspections, size, and the complexity of the project. Some outdoor waterfall designs and construction projects can take weeks to install. Others can take shorter or longer. You will need to speak with our specialty waterfall contractors to understand better the length of time it will take to create your waterfall design.
Can a waterfall be added to an existing landscape?
In most cases, yes. Adding a custom waterfall to an established yard is something we do regularly. The key variables are the existing grade of your property, how much usable space surrounds the planned feature, and what’s already in the ground in terms of plumbing and irrigation. A natural slope is helpful and can actually make the design easier to work with, but a flat yard doesn’t rule anything out. Our team does a thorough site assessment at the start of every project to understand what we’re working with and what the build will realistically involve. Some retrofit waterfall projects come together with very little disruption to the surrounding landscape. Others require more prep work. Either way, you’ll know exactly what to expect before construction starts.
